Ralph Lauren is all sorts of cutting edge

Uber-classic luxury retailer, Polo Ralph Lauren, has become the first American fashion giant to launch a mobile commerce site. Exciting! What exactly is mobile or m-commerce, you might ask? It's a technology trend (already quite common in Japan), that enables savvy shoppers to use the camera function on their phones to buy everything from train tickets to Snickers bars. Yep, it's shopping by cell phone.

Polo is already placing special Quick Response Technology codes in ads, mailings and store windows, and shoppers who download the software to their phones will be able to scan the codes using the camera, and be instantly directed to that specific product on the Ralph Lauren website. Pretty cool, huh?

In no time, every cell phone will come preinstalled with code-readers, and buying online will be oh so passe, darling.
